Atheism & Yoga

"Hey Raviana. I was wondering is Atheism compatible with yoga? Can atheists practise yoga? A few people have asked me this question!"

Its a great question! Atheism and yoga are very compatible because the practice of yoga does not mandate any type of belief system. Yoga is simply a technology which can be used in whichever way a person is inspired to use it.

Because the practice of yoga/meditation engenders direct experience and expanded awareness, one is eventually able to transcend definitions and to experience more deeply whatever it is they believe in.

Many people try to understand "God," through a process of logical deduction. God, the Universe, Totality, or whatever one wants to call it, are beyond the mind.

We feel that to declare oneself an atheist because they haven't had a personal experience of what could be termed, "God," is as valid as one who believes based on faith alone.

It is a common human foible to bicker about what God is or isn't while waiting for God to prove its existence. It would be better if we all strived to expand our awareness and live in a way so that "God," or Infinity becomes self-evident.
